A LAN cable, which stands for Local Area Network cable, is a type of cable used to connect devices within a local area network (LAN). LAN cables are also commonly referred to as Ethernet cables or network cables. These cables are designed to carry data between devices such as computers, printers, switches, routers, and other network-enabled devices.
LAN cables typically consist of twisted pairs of copper wires encased in a protective jacket. The most common type of LAN cable is the Category 5e (Cat 5e) cable, which supports data transmission speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second (Gbps) over distances of up to 100 meters. However, newer standards such as Cat 6, Cat 6a, and Cat 7 are also available, offering higher speeds and better performance over longer distances.
