In the recently held Wireless China Industry Summit 2015, Sun Zhenqiang, the director of Wireless Research Office of China Telecom Beijing Research Institute, said that carrier aggregation (CA) would be the emphasis in the next stage of 4G network development and China Telecom will gradually promote the implementation of CA.
Sun Zhenqiang said, traffic data has become the focus of operators’ attention. Compared with 4G network, the 4G+ network integrated with CA technologies has more advantages when faced with 4K HD and other services. Therefore, many operators have extensively carried out deployment of CA in the global. According to the statistics of GSA, 88 operators have officially launched CA services in 45 countries by the end of August 2015. The industry chain has also gradually matured, including 1,132 Cat4 devices (downlink speed of 150Mbps), 108 Cat6 devices (downlink speed of 150Mbs-300Mbps).
For China Telecom, it will gradually deploy CA in the order of middle frequency, low frequency and high frequency bands. Specifically the middle frequency bands will balance the coverage and capacity and support the CA of 2.1GHz and 1.8GHz bands; the low frequency bands will focus on the coverage and support the CA of 800MHz and 700MHz bands; the high frequency bands will focus on providing capacity and support the CA of 2.6GHz bands.
