CATR (China Academy of Telecommunication Research) recently issued the monitoring on features & technical capabilities of mobile phones in the domestic market.
This shows that there are 330 models applying for network access license in the third quarter of 2016, including 290 4G models which account for 87.88% of the total, rising 8.9% year over year.
98.97% of 290 models of 4G handsets support band41, showing a 16.4% YoY increase, 71.03% support band1, and 86.55% support band3. With handsets of all-network version gradually accepted by the market, mobile phones that support band41, band1 or band3 are making up a larger part.
258 models supporting VoLTE solutions account for 88.9% of the total, growing 86.8% over the prior year and 6.8% compared with 2Q16. It can be seen that VoLTE is becoming the basic configuration for 4G handsets while dual-SIM, dual-standby handsets are pulling out of the market.
Besides, there are 105 models supporting CAT6, and this number is keeping growing while those supporting CAT3 are eliminated by the market.
